1.        Draw your kitchen, bath, or bar top:  Don’t worry about being exact or drawing to scale.  Just
draw your existing counters and measure in inches the length of your counters.  Indicate which edges
are open and which edges meet an appliance, cabinet or wall.  Indicate where the appliances and
sink are located in the kitchen as well as any appliance garages that are on the counter.  Indicate
which areas will need a backsplash.  The purpose of this drawing is to determine how much granite
your project will require.  Since every stone is unique, knowing the quantity will help guide the process
of stone selection.

Fax your drawing to Jean at 724-482-1769

2.        Choose your own slabs - start with viewing
our slabs at our shop and then we encourage you
to visit our suppliers in person:
a.
Dente Classic Stone – 201 Ann Street, Oakmont, PA  15139 412-828-1772
b.        PGH Granite - 3812 William Flynn Hwy (RT 8), Allison Park, PA 412-837-2642
c.
Mont Granite - 302 West Steuben St.  Pittsburgh, PA 15205 412-921-6740

3.        Shopping: Have fun walking up and down the rows of stone slabs.  Decide whether you prefer
stone with movement and waves or more consistent stone.  When you find the stone you want, make
sure there are enough slabs to complete your kitchen (you know this from step 1).

4.        Tag it.  Tagging stone only means that the supplier agrees not to sell that stone to someone
else for 14 days.  You are not obligated to buy that stone, and no deposit is required.  Just leave your
contact information and make sure they know Custom Marble & Granite is the fabricator.  Once you
tag your stone, contact Jean at 724-482-0144.

5.        Price: Jean will discuss with you the cost for the stone.  Every stone is a different price, so it’s
essential for you to know what you like before we can determine the price.  If you agree on the price,
you’ll leave a 50% deposit with Jean and she will have your stone delivered to the fabrication shop at
Custom Marble and Granite.

6.        Template: Lester will come out and make a template of your kitchen.  He will build an exact
outline of your counters from precise measurements.  He will also discuss any special custom
features you may like to add to your project.  If the actual square footage differs from the preliminary
drawing you supplied, the price may go up or down accordingly.

7.        Lay Out: The template will be placed on your stone and if your stone has significant movement
(or color variation) you may meet with Les and Jean in the shop to view the layout of the templates on
the stone.  If your stone does not contain much movement or if the stone is a consistent pattern Step 7
may not apply.

8.        Edging: The exposed edges of your counters need to be finished.  There are several options
for you to choose from and you’ll be able to see samples of each.

9.        Sink: The latest trend is an under mount sink where the sink is mounted below the granite so
the counter is smooth without a sink rim.  This involves cutting a hole in the granite to the exact shape
of the template of your sink and then hand polishing the cut edges to a hi-gloss shine.  The sink you
choose should be of excellent quality and a sink that you will enjoy for many years.  The two most
popular types of sinks are Stainless Steel and Granite.  Cast Iron and Fireclay are also popular
choices when color is important.  You may visit the following websites for options.

delivered directly to the fabrication shop to cut your granite to size and shape.

10.        Faucets:  Begin looking for your faucet using the abovementioned websites plus a couple
more below.  Tip: If you chose a stainless steel sink, you may want to buy a faucet from the same

sink, the finish is less important.  As with the sink, Jean can provide you with a discount off list price on
